Conquering Mt. Humphrey's

Ryan and I got a quick night away. We hired a girl in our ward, Wesley Mowry, who is just about to leave on a mission. We decided it was time to hike Humphrey's in Flagstaff. We both grew up in AZ and hadn't ever done it. We were definitely not prepared! Neither had been exercising very regularly. The altitude really got to us. And, we got a late start, so we were trying to hurry the entire time. The sun set when we had about 45 minutes to the bottom. Luckily Ryan had brought headlamps and I had a bar of Ghiradelli chocolate in the backpack!
If you look closely, you can see Ryan with his arms outstretched on the peak.

Bear Cub

For the last several years, Ryan and I have been serving with the cub scouts, in different capacities. Ryan is currently "Master of the Cubs". He makes it so fun for the boys. He brings his guitar, makes up songs, makes the boys laugh, etc...
Here's Caleb when he earned his Bear Badge.

Nolan turns 2

Did I really one take one picture of Nolan's 2nd birthday? This is the scooter that the Martinsen's gave him.

Here's some more of his being 2. He has a thing for emptying soap dispensers. Guess he felt like his hair needed a good washing.

Snack Time

This kid can pretty much get whatever he wants. He's a great little climber. I think Everest might be in his future.

Preschool, 2nd grade & 4th grade!

First Day of School!
Marcus is so excited to go to a "real" school this year. He gets to attend the inclusion preschool program at Anthem El. And, I'm not allowed to call it preschool, "It's just school Mom!"
As you can see, wearing cargo shorts is so last year. This year it's basketball shorts.

Grandpa's Birthday

Grandpa Martinsen has always deflected birthday attention from himself, by giving away gifts. This year was no different. Back in March, he gave each member of the family some money with instructions. The adults got $100, each grandchild got $20. We were to spend the money in an act of service and then report back at a later date.
So, we thought the reunion would be an ideal time, since we would all be together.
Eli and Marcus both went to Walmart and  bought some pretty sweet Hot Wheels tracks to donate to "Mendy's Place". It's a wing of John C. Lincoln Hospital that treats only children. They have a special closet that sick children can choose a toy from during their stay. It was tough to pick out such awesome toys and then have to give them away. But, they did it!
Caleb spent his money buying non-perishable food to donate to the needy.
Ryan gave his at a fundraiser for a family who lost their one year old little boy in an accident.
I donated mine to NILMDTS.
